Young one

You cry for a better future
What makes you undeserving of this?
Is it the colour of your skin?
The land of your birth?
Or a macabre combination of both
To deny you life

To repeatedly shatter whatever shred of hope
That awakens you every morning
When you rise to make something of yourself
To reach for an ever-receding dream
The ever-dimming light at the end of the tunnel
With a sigh of frustration accompanying you to bed
And you wake up again
To relive the same torment
Who did you offend?

Dear young one
My heart bleeds for you
So much power. So much passion. So much talent
So much love
Residing in the embodiment of a divine gift that is you
So much to offer the world
For the sake of an opportunity
To thrive and to blossom…
I look at you and know
There is and forever will be
a hope for the future
